Francis Marion finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Francis Marion just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region three with a 2-4 region record. The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Francis Marion averaged scoring just 13.6 points a game. The Rams also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 39.1 points a game. The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Francis Marion has gone a combined 32-88. Their 26.7% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Francis Marion has not won much with a record of 70-181. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 2A and 358th in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. The Rams will be under the direction of new head football coach Termaine Todd as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Todd served as an assistant coach at Russell County last season. The Francis Marion Rams will play in Class 2A region one during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Rams remain in 2A but move from region three over to region one. The Rams have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 60-51 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 2A and 103rd in the AHSAA. The Rams enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Rams could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Francis Marion has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2018 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Rams open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Greene County on Friday, August 26 at Rams Stadium. Last year the Greene County Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 2A region one. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Luverne by a score of 41-6. Francis Marion and Greene County have met a total of 6 times on the football field.
